Congratulations to Riverside Public School, on your new website! The new sites have a number of new features to highlight, including: An accessibility adjustment tool has been included to the site called AccessiBe, which can be found on the bottom left-hand side of any page. IEWSS and LCVI Student Work Featured in the Annual Juried Exhibit

From February 24 to March 31, the Kawartha Art Gallery is hosting their annual Juried Exhibit for local secondary school students. The exhibit, which has been taking place for the past 20 years, invites talented student artists to create and submit pieces, featuring a variety of different media, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital painting, and mixed media. Local Trillium Lakelands District School Board schools currently have pieces from Grade 9 to 12 students being featured in the exhibit, including 43 pieces by 34 students from Lindsay Collegiate and Vocational Institute (LCVI), and 16 pieces by 14 students from I.E. Upcoming Skilled Trades Presentation: Jamie McMillan

When: Monday, March 20 Time: 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This virtual event is a great opportunity for Trillium Lakelands District School Board students, staff, families, and community members to learn about careers in the skilled trades. Jamie McMillan is the founder and spokesperson of Workboot Career. She is a motivational speaker, journeyman ironworker, apprentice boilermaker, author, and advocate for skilled trades, technology, mental health, people who are unhoused, and youth. Registration Register online using the Family Session Registration Link. Once completed, you will receive an email with the event link to use on March 20.

The following three organizations; The Kawartha Art Gallery, A Place Called Home, and the United Way City of Kawartha Lakes – United Women, recently partnered to launch a special unhoused awareness community project. After School Skills Development Programs are Now Available

We are excited to announce the After School Skills Development Program, which seeks to offer social skills learning opportunities for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) outside of the school day. The After School Skills Development Program is made up of three individual programs, each with a specific social skills focus and target age groups. The programs will be offered in-person and virtually. The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) Level 1 Accelerated is now accepting applications! This opportunity is available to current Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) Grade 11 students who are interested in pursuing a career in the skilled trades. It allows students to complete the first part of their apprenticeship schooling, all while participating in the cooperative (co-op) education program and completing their secondary school diploma. Muskoka Falls Public School Student Hosts Cupcake Day to Raise Money for OSPCA

Muskoka Falls Public School Grade 7 student, Teva Milner, recently organized a Cupcake Day to raise money for the local Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA). “My mom used to work at OSPCA,” explained Milner. “The organization holds an annual cupcake day each year and my mom and I have always supported them. So I thought I would bring it to my school.” The bake sale took place on February 16 during the school’s first nutrition break. LCVI Students Build a Pathway to their Future

On March 2, Lindsay Collegiate and Vocational Institute (LCVI) students had the opportunity to build a pathway to their future by taking part in a Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Day. The presentation was divided into two sessions, with Grade 10 students participating in the morning and Grade 11 students in the afternoon. In each session, students heard from Fleming College’s Brooke Lynch, and LCVI graduate, Karl Repka, who spoke about pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, and the many different connections to pathways (apprenticeship, community, workplace, college and university).
