Earn Your High School Diploma

Graduation Is Closer Than You Think!

Day School

The Adult & Alternate Education Centre offers Day School to earn your high school diploma and upgrade employment skills.

Day School consists of six week block courses, which run Monday to Friday, mornings only.

To be eligible for Day School, students must be at least 16 years of age.

Earn a Credit in Just Six Weeks!

Starting in September and running until June of each year, the Adult & Alternate Education Centres run six week block courses, which allow students to earn a credit in the same amount of time.

Students can participate in Day School, Co-operative Education and the REAL program.

Co-operative Education

The Adult & Alternate Education Centre offers Co-operative Education to students who are employed in paid or unpaid position and are gaining experience.

Students are eligible to earn one high school credit for every 110 hours of work or volunteer experience.

To be eligible for Co-operative Education, students must be at least 16 years of age.

Program Options for Co-op

  • Day School

    Co-operative Education is offered from September to June at all six AAECs.

  • Night School

    Co-operative Education is offered once a semester at the Huntsville and Lindsay AAECs.

  • Summer School

    Co-operative Education is offered each July and August at all six AAECs. Students are eligible to earn 1 or 2 credits.

Continuous Intake

The Adult & Alternate Education Centre offers Continuous Intake through the REAL program and Online Courses.

Students can earn credits towards their high school diploma at their own pace and have the ability to start at any time.

To be eligible for Continuous Intake, students must be at least 16 years of age.

Continuous Intake Programs

  • Online Courses

    Online credit courses can be completed from home or at any of the six AAECs between September and June of each year.

  • Return, Earn & Learn (REAL) Program

    Return, Earn 7 Learn (REAL) program allows students to earn credits towards their high school diploma at their own pace. Students may work out of course booklets from home or at any of the six AAECs.

Dual Credits

The Adult & Alternate Education Centre offers Dual Credit opportunities to enrich a student’s studies by taking a college course delivered by highly trained college staff.

Students will earn both a college credit and a secondary school credit. It is an excellent way for students to sample college, while working towards their high school diploma.

Program Overview

Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR)

The Adult & Alternate Education Centre offers PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition) for Mature Students. PLAR provides a faster way for adults to acquire credits towards their high school diploma. Credits may be granted based on life and work experience and also granted through the successful completion of assessments in English, Math, Science, Geography and History.

Maturity Credits

The Adult & Alternate Education Centre offers Maturity Credits for students who had entered high school prior to September 1999. Students may be eligible to receive up to 12 equivalency credits, gained from life and work experience. Students must take a minimum of four credits to receive Maturity Credits.
