PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT & RECOGNITION (PLAR)

Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR)

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) for Mature Students provides a quicker way for adults to acquire credits towards a high school diploma. Through PLAR, you may get credits towards your high school diploma through a formal evaluation and assessments. PLAR Assessment process looks at your life and work experiences since leaving high school and can award you credit for that experience, as well as grant equivalent credits for successful completion of assessments.

What Schooling and Experiences can I get Credits For?

You can get credits for learning and skills you have acquired at school, at home, at work, in training programs, and volunteer work. This applies to schooling, work experiences you have from outside of Ontario and Canada, as well as in the province.

“I graduated from Gravenhurst AETC in 2012 and went on to earn my diploma as a Chemical Lab Technologist from St. Clair College in Windsor.  I plan to further my education and get my degree in physics.  I wish to give kudos to my teachers at GAETC.  As an assignment Mel, my english teacher, had her students write a letter about their goals and then she sends the letter 3 years later to her students.  I recently received my letter which is very cool, a testament to the support and encouragement I received from GAETC staff. Thank you.”

A school that truly takes its time to help its students.

The teachers are very supportive and helpful. After 20 years of being out of school they made accomplishing my Gr. 12 and graduating a reality.

If it weren’t for AETC I wouldn’t be back in school.  It’s all about second chances!

“GREAT TEACHERS…..GREAT STUDENTS…..GREAT LEARNING ATMOSPHERE.”

“It’s never too late to finish something you started long ago.”

“The staff here are really friendly.  They are willing to go the extra mile to help you out.”

“As I reflect on the time I have spent in your school, I really enjoyed the work and the fantastic staff.  I will recommend friends to pay the Alternate Education Centre a visit; you know, the people who were like me, that need that extra push to complete their grade 12.”

“With paid co-op, I was able to complete my grade 12 without having to give up my job and return to school full time.”

“With the support of the teachers at LAETC and the support of my employer, I successfully obtained 2 credits in a short period of time.”
